VO2 Max is the maximum volume (mL) of oxygen your body can use, per kg body weight, per minute (mL/kg/min). It is not only the gold standard measure of a person’s aerobic or cardiovascular fitness but a recognised predictor of cardiovascular disease risk. The higher your VO2 max, the lower your risk!
Whilst VO2 max testing involves expensive, specialised equipment to measure the inspired and expired gas levels of an athlete, the Cooper’s 12 minute run provides an excellent predictor of VO2 max, provided the subject works to their maximum capacity.
An individual’s VO2max will be determined by the combined effect of:
Your VO2max can be improved through regular cardio exercise and HITT training – essentially all the programs undertaken at The Living Edge.
Calculate your VO2 Max using this equation:
(22.35 x Total Distance (km) – 11.29
eg. if you ran 2000 metres
(22.35 x 2) – 11.29
VO2 max= 33.41 mL/kg/min
The included charts will allow you to determine your rating, either from your Cooper’s test result or your predicted VO2 max if you have calculated it.
Friday night shred sessions are back! These classes are a great way to end the working week and kickstart your weekend.
