As we move into the month of March, it’s a great point in time to check-in with yourself (and your mentor) about the goals that you may have set at the start of the year. Don’t worry, It’s OK to have maybe tripped up on that New Years Resolution – life happens! It’s important to remember that there is always going to be ‘something’ that could get in the way, so plan for that. In this month’s newsletter we share some great information on goal setting and a process that you may find allows you to hit that next level.
On that note, it’s important to celebrate some wins, which many of you recognised in the relevant award nominations. Having chatted to some of these recruits, it’s no coincidence that they are seeing the benefits of setting some defined goals – I am sure they would all be happy to share their tips on what has been the game-changer:
What a fantastic start to our new ‘Fitness Fusion’ program, which was embraced by many over the trial weeks in February!
This program was born of the idea, there are many ways people can stay active – be it physically or in a supportive community to work towards their health and wellbeing goals. It was fantastic to see just that – some of our regular Bootcamp recruits, adding a different dynamic to their training whilst also welcoming some old and new faces, who have been wanting to train in an environment that supports them on their journey!
As we move into the Winter months, we will be looking to continue the program indoors in a location nearby to Wattle Park, to ensure that your journey can continue and Fitness Fusion is a consistent program available to all.
If you know of someone who would benefit from the program, please feel free to invite your friend or family member to participate in a free-trial – simply by forwarding them to our website OR letting Dave or Katrina know in advance.
Speaking about yourself in the third person is odd, so please excuse the below!
I work for McMillan Shakespeare Group – a company with a few different arms, but mainly Australia’s largest salary packaging provider, working with employers to offer their staff a range of benefits. My role within the team is as a Business Improvement Manager in their novated leasing business – a product which helps customers take advantage of government benefits to purchase a vehicle.
Having started my working life post school working in hospitality, behind the pans – I decided my love for food, was just that and as a career went down a completely different route starting a job with Subaru Melbourne as a Sales Consultant – don’t believe everything they say about car salesman! One day, the rugby club I grew up playing for made the grand final (which I cheekily decided to leave work for and watch on the busiest day of the week!), which literally changed my life – I decided to have my weekends back, play footy and spend time with friends/family. With a background in automotive, it made sense to stay somewhat connected to something I was good at but with Monday to Friday hours.
Currently I lead a team of change makers in Business Improvement and Support – we find ways to solve a range of problems, find ways to do things more efficiently leveraging tech and support the business in day to day activity. My journey to the role has been an interesting one, starting as a Novated Leasing Sales Consultant, I quickly grew a reputation for delivering high level of service managing a portfolio of influential partners, before I was ear marked for sales management – it didn’t interest me and I flagged my interest in training and finding ways to do thing better.
It was great to be supported into a role as a Learning Specialist where I created an onboarding program, knowledge management systems and new processes whilst also supporting the business in projects looking after change management. Identifying that with tech we could shift the needle making complex, simple for our people and customers, I transitioned into a more focused Business Improvement and projects role before leading the team 🙂
During COVID I was recognised by my peers and executive team as the MMS ‘Hero Award’ winner – an annual award, given to somebody who embodies the company value of “Being better together”. It was incredibly humbling to be awarded for something other than achieving results but rather my passion for working as a team to benefit the greater good.
It’s a great place to work, which enables everyday Australians to understand and access government benefits (Such as salary packaging, novated leasing and the NDIS). If you enjoy being challenged, are willing to put in the hard yards – you will reap the rewards – be it career wise, support in personal endeavours or even just financially.
Good things come in 3’s – exercise, diet and SLEEP! Whilst we focus on balancing two of these most of the time, we generally make sacrifices for a multitude of reasons when it comes to catching the ZZZZZ’s. Whilst we all know that getting good sleep contributes to restoration and repair, increasing our energy and helping us be ready to tackle the ‘Froggies, ‘Frankies’ and ‘Fartleck’, it also plays a significantly important part in everyday brain functions.
These are just a few of the benefits, see the infographic below about how good sleep contributes to our overall fitness
Setting goals no matter how small is a behavior, that when made a habit, will unlock your growth mindset!
A ripper book that should be on your reading list is “Make Your Bed” by William H. McRaven – setting a goal to make your bed in the morning, can set you up for success – it gives you an easy way to achieve a daily goal and provide your brain with a sense of achievement , plus a comfy bed to jump into when you get home 🙂
Plenty of people have their own way of setting goals, however our brains way of processing means following a process when setting these, allows it to be imbedded in our brain. The most common method used is setting ‘SMART’ Goals – give it a crack, you might just be surprised with what you’ll achieve!

‘SPIRIT’ of BOOTCAMP
All those who participated in the trial weeks of Fitness Fusion were fully invested in our new program, creating a new category of awards for The Living Edge!
Congratulations to our first award winners!
Jesus Christ of course.
Chris Wark – for his wealth of knowledge about healing cancer and disease naturally.
Tucker Carlson – for his honest opinions, insights and intellect on all current topics/issues in the world.
Russell Coight – for some Aussie comedy and awkward moments at the dinner table.
Chris Hemsworth – just to look at.
Supernatural Healing. To be able to touch anyone who needs healing, and they be healed instantly.
Cadbury Peppermint Chocolate. [Insert drool here].
I had a drug addiction for about 15 years of my life. I lost everything. Hit rock bottom. I was an absolute mess. Lost a LOT of brain cells. Been angry. Depressed. Alone…. But having Jake (my 9 year old) and finding Jesus, saved my life in more ways than you can possibly imagine.
This Is Me. – Keala Settle & The Greatest Showman.
Why? Because; ‘I’m not a stranger to the dark…’ And over the years I have had many ‘broken parts’ and many ‘scars’, but…. – ‘I am brave. I am bruised. I am who I’m meant to be. This is me.’ 🙂
Other than the Bible [wink], the latest book I’ve read is; ‘MMS Health Recovery Guidebook’ by Jim Humble. Highly recommend for people looking for natural healing outside the medical/pharmaceutical system.
The Chosen. – Download the App and watch it! Go in with an open mind. Just do it!
Listening to natural health / healing interviews/summits, and/or Bible sermons/teachings. – I know I’m (really) boring (and different), but I don’t care.
Increase my fasting windows and being consistent with it, get into the gym a few times per week, and continue to get to The Living Edge for my favourite dose of mental wellness – being around such genuine and amazing humans.
My inspiration comes 100% from Jake. He is a miracle baby, who fought against all odds to survive. As a single mum, I just HAVE to get myself in the BEST shape of my life for my child’s sake. I need to do the right things on and off the field, be a good role model, learn all that I can about health, detoxification and longevity etc, be grateful always, practise joy and happiness (a day without laughter is a day wasted)… Simply put, Jake inspires me to become the absolute BEST version of me, across the board. It’s non-negotiable.
Never watch the News. It’s depressing and traumatising. Get off the screens, get outdoors, drink water only, eat organic food from the earth, and ask Jesus into your heart.
There is no other program like OBC/Living Edge. The Living Edge culture, the DNA, the mantras, and everything that TLE stands for, is honestly something that EVERYone needs in their life. Since my first ever session in Sept 2007, the people of OBC have seen me go through LOTS of ups and downs in my life. With everything going on over the years, coming to OBC has been my safe place, my happy place, and the place where I know I am never laughed at, judged, or condemned. In fact, I am always embraced with open, loving, empathetic and genuinely caring arms. I have several people of OBC/TLE to thank for getting me through some of the toughest times of my life. I may not always be there (as I’m far away and a single mum with commitments) BUT whatever dose of The Living Edge I can fit in, is worth every second. I am, and always will be so unbelievably grateful for such as amazing community of people
