Dry July
A number of Living Edge recruits are going dry this July for a great cause, raising funds for cancer patients-carers-families. The benefits of Dry July are numerous…. increased energy, improved mental health, healthier skin, better sleep and improved feelings of wellbeing, just to name a few. Rainy day TV: The West Wing
Best song to get me pumped:
Bună dimineața (Good morning in Romanian) by Zdob și Zdub, a Moldovan folk-rock classic that energizes me every time; my 2-year loves it too 🙂
Last meal: Buckwheat topped with chicken in white mushroom sauce, followed by Cușma lui Guguță cake (pyramid looking log cake with sour cherry filling) – quintessential favourites of my Eastern European/Soviet childhood
Best advice: Love your neighbour as yourself
Looking forward: First true family vacation in Cairns in August, for just my wife, son and I
Hidden talent: absence of most talents :). Seriously, though, I usually default to my language skills (English is my third language)
First car: Ford Crown Victoria
Current car: Infiniti FX37
Dream car: Fully self-driving
Inspirational living person: My Mom – she raised my sister and I through the collapse of one country (Soviet Union), the shambles of another (Moldova, poorest in Europe), whilst reinventing herself constantly through 6 career changes. She is now happily remarried in New Zealand and has a thriving counselling practice, with clients speaking 4 different languages
First music concert: David Guetta (amazing energy!)
Dream concert: João Gilberto (love Bossa Nova!)
Advice to my 18 year old self: Don’t care about what others think of you, they really don’t think about you much at all.
Five people for dinner: My maternal grandfather and great grand parents, none of whom I’ve met
Book recommendation: Cure – A Journey into the science of mind and body, by Jo Marchant (non-fiction); Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand (fiction)
Film recommendation: La Vitta è Bella (Life is Beautiful), directed by Roberto Benigni
Live anywhere else: Northern Spain – I love the landscapes, people, good, weather and speaking Spanish!
Super power: Time travel, but only backward (it would be pretty uncomfortable knowing what’s ahead, but super interesting knowing what really happened)
Living Edge OBC: An accepting, hugging, open, warm, fun, caring, committed community of great people who happen to exercise together too!
The target number of push-ups varied from day to day to reflect a different mental health statistic and to encourage conversations around mental health.
Collectively we completed 59.778 push ups and raised $3,880
A massive thank you to everyone who came along to our breakfast event at Wattle Park on 23rd June. There was a great buzz in the air as almost 40 recruits participated in a fantastic ropes workout, followed by a hot coffee and breakfast. A massive thank you to our barista Kwokie and Chef Stu for their efforts and to everyone who attended and contributed to our fundraising efforts. A total of $240 was donated to MND research.
COMMUNICATION via What’s App Community Group
A LIVING EDGE COMMUNITY GROUP has been set up on What’s App, which will allow you to receive important updates/program changes and event news from your coaches. This group will be used for one-way communication only so you won’t be bombarded with notifications. Anyone not yet a member of The Living Edge Comunity Group is encouraged to join HERE
The OBC staying connected group will continue to be used for two-way banter between groups members and for the sharing of photos, etc after sessions. If you are interested in joining the two-way chat, in addition to the community group, please click here.
UPDATE YOUR EXERCISE QUESTIONNAIRE DETAILS
In order for us to ensure we can cater for individual need and modify exercises according to any medical concerns or issues, it is important that your pre-exercise questionnaire remains updated at all times. Please get into the habit of checking this each month when you enrol, as well as anytime there is a change in your health status.
Please also check that emergency contact details remain up-to-date.
