THE LIVING EDGE NEWS: JANUARY 2022

Welcome to everyone joining us for the January program to kick-start the new year.
ORIGINAL BOOTCAMP NEWS

It’s fair to say that the new Living Edge benchmark testing regime, undertaken by our Original Bootcamp recruits, has been well received. In particular some great results have been achieved across all locations in the Cooper’s 12 minute run. Please check the members area of the website to access your results at any time.

For those who are interested, the table of norms for the Cooper’s 12-minute, along with a calculator to determine your VO2 max (maximum volume of oxygen your body can use per kg/minute) is linked here.

MEMBER NEWS

A belated Congratulations to ‘Sarge’ Leithy for his promotion in rank late last year.

All the best to Lewis Francis (Wattle Park pm) who, after winning the Australian Kart Championship in Cadet 12 late last year, is currenlty in Italy with Dad Brian, to race.

Congratulations to Luke and Fu Eddy and family on the safe arrival of their precious baby Harper.

A belated Thank You to our resident Coffee expert Kwokie for hosting a coffee morning for the Wattle Park am crew.

A shout out to Thierry (Fawkner park), wife Alex, daughter Rose and son Elliot who are finally enjoying some time with extended family in France. Happy New Year to you all!

Thank you and congratulations to Joe Lee (Fawkner Park) for his amazing massage skills that have enabled recruits and instructors to recover well and enjoy their training.

CONGRATULATIONS to all who trained through the Christmas break, both in person and on zoom, to keep their fitness and wellbeing on track.

OUR MANTRA FOR THE MONTH

It is exciting to be back to training with friends and family. Make the most of your training this month by:
1. Investing in your mentor. Share your goals with one another and hold each other accountable
2. Connecting with others. Be sure to join our What’s App group (Text your name and number to 0405334061- Katrina if you need the link to join) to enjoy the informal camaraderie and banter, as well as our facebook and instagram.

3. Sharing your wins. Celebrate your small successes as well as striving for your ‘big, hairy, audacious goal’ whether that be the goal of running 5km, competing in a series of fun runs or turning up to every session for the month.

My involvement with Original Bootcamp and The Living Edge has been life changing. In 2012, I was seeking an outdoor fitness program that would challenge me and improve my fitness, but what I got from it is so much more. It's the best thing I've ever been part of! Joining Original Bootcamp with the Living Edge has been the best decision I have ever made. Nowadays it is not easy to find a place where the sense of community is at the forefront. The Original Bootcamp, lead by Sarge Dave Murray from The Living Edge, ticks this important box. From the first day, one can feel the camaraderie, support and encouragement that uplift the spirit during the hardest part of training or the coldest day of winter. Knowing that I will share an hour with a group of people with the same mindset motivates me every morning. That is just half of the equation because Dave Murray and his team of trainers lead by example, and they are always attentive to how we perform the exercise and that we are doing it the right way.

It’s never too late! I started attending Original Bootcamp training with The Living Edge in early 2014, after a 9-year break from regular exercise. I was in my 50’s and unfit by every measure. From the first session I was welcomed and never judged. Every recruit had been through a similar journey and they only offered words of encouragement and advice. Within 6 months I was back to being fit and feeling good about myself. Dave and the other trainers at The Living Edge have created an amazing culture, inclusive of people from all walks of life and occupations. I started training with The Living Edge in 2014. A short break to have my daughter and then I was back to Bootcamp. This is a great outdoor program with a variety of cardio and weight training. The sessions are always varied and well researched which keeps things interesting as well as beneficial fitness wise. The trainers are superb and Sarge Dave Murray is very motivational and supportive of your goals and aspirations. He has created a culture that is more like a community where everyone helps each other out. One of his favourite sayings is ‘together, everyone achieves more’. The support, camaraderie and banter is what keeps me coming back again and again. The Living Edge is so much more than just fitness training for me. It is the medicine for my mental health. Cannot recommend it highly enough!
